Perhaps Grant Stewart wouldn’t allow us to say it but he is a true master of the tenor saxophone. The Canadian-born New York stalwart has been heard next to greats like Peter Bernstein, Brad Mehldau, and Clark Terry and performs regularly internationally. When in NY, Grant can be heard at the non-presumptuous 11th Street Bar, one of our favorite Monday night hangouts for bebop and post bop. Roll thru!
Josh Evans is at the forefront of modern trumpet playing. A favorite soloist in bands such as Christian McBride, Charles Tolliver, and “Ku-umba” Frank Lacy, Evans sound is unique and exciting. Don’t miss this show as he performs alongside tenor/soprano wizard Stacy Dillard backed by Rob Duguay’s ‘Low Key Trio’.
Anyone who has seen Ben Monder play guitar know that he is so much more than a guitarist. The larger than life sounds he produces from the instrument, the unique and at times acrobatic fingering techniques he employs, and his ability to stray from cliche make him one of the most interesting musicians to see. Performances and recordings with luminaries like David Bowie, Toots Thielemans, and Dave Liebman tell the story of his diverse nature and welcome in various musical settings.
